 Child Health Awareness Foundation(CHAF)


The Organization

Child Health Awareness Foundation (CHAF) is a charitable, non-government organization (NGO) in Bangladesh based in Dhaka. Since its inception CHAF has been working with the aim to improve the health status of children and mothers in Bangladesh with special emphasis on clefts lip and palate anomalies of children. From 2006, CHAF focused to provide free treatment for cleft children and also other child and maternal health problems in Bangladesh with joint collaboration of different rotary clubs, organizations and individuals.

CHAF became a well known organization in Bangladesh for clefts lip, palate and other craniofacial anomaly surgery.  Over the last 11 years, the CHAF has been working hard to address the challenges of mother and child health. These challenges ranged from health to human rights, while important challenges are the treatment cost, stigma, discrimination and social exclusion of clefts children. CHAF has an expert and efficient craniofacial surgical team which include Pediatric plastic Surgeons, Oral & Maxillofacial surgeons, Neurosurgeons, Assistant surgeons, Anesthesiologists and Nurses. In addition, CHAF has been providing training and internship towards the capacity of development of medical professionals.


Legal Status

Child Health Awareness Foundation (CHAF) is a non-government, non-profit organization it was registered under Joint Stock companies and firms, No. S 5831 since 19 July 2006 and NGO Affairs Bureau of Bangladesh, under Foreign Donation Regulation Act vide no. 2778 since 1st April 2013.

Organizational Structure
A seven members Executive Committee and a general body govern CHAF. The General Committee (GC) at the apex is composed of 31 members. It meets once a year with a provision for special meeting(s). The Executive Committee (EC) is composed of 7 members and is elected for every two years by GC members. CHAF is accountable to GC through EC. As per the constitution, the EC meets quarterly. The Executive Director of the organization is accountable to EC. CHAF is abided by EC approved well-laid service rules and programmatic and financial guidelines for program operation and HR management.

Mission Statement

Child Health Awareness Foundation (CHAF) poignant for a healthy society where all mother, children and all others are getting adequate physical and mental health treatment and able to avail their rights and living with respect and dignity.

Objectives of CHAF

CHAF identified following five major objectives to achieve during next five years:

  • To ensure quality service provision by strengthening management & technical capacity of Child Health Awareness Foundation (CHAF).

·         To provide health awareness & services like treatment for cleft lip cleft palate,  other congenital and acquired (due to burn , accident disease ) abnormalities to poor  and underprivileged children and adolescents.

  • To improve mother and child health status towards reducing vulnerabilities and difficulties of pregnant women and children.
  • To reduce stigma, discrimination and vulnerabilities associates with anomalies of children as well as contribute in national response about child and mother health program by providing information, research and technical supports.
  • To reduce dependency and secure sustainability of the organization.
